Designer of the week: a short interview with Achraf Elkaami – UI/UX Designer from Morocco

How long have you been involved with web design?

I’ve been involved in Web Design since about 2015

When did you realize that you wanted to become a web designer?

It’s in 2015, my background is in print design, it’s only the last 4 years that I’ve moved with full force into the digital arena. I took the leap from working solely in print when lot of my clients back then asked me to create not only their logo and stationery but also their websites , From that point on I fell in love with building interfaces.


What other Designers do you take inspiration from

They are a lots of designers that inspire me, Michael Bierut Is one of them, his work is simple and timeless, I also feel inspired by walking, spending time with friends, going out or watching a movie.

What portfolio piece is your personal favorite?

Usually I’m too critical about my work. It always seems that there is something left that can be improved. but if had to pick one it will be the GOTOEGYPT website, That design changed my life the impact that it had on the community is amazing I never saw that coming.

How do you go about promoting your work?

I use dribbble or behance to promote my work and I also use some social media platform like twitter and facebook.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is Every day is different, Every day brings with it a new challenges, solving problems, creative projects and a new user experience to design.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?

The most challenging aspect of my job as a designer is you have to constantly improve. In this industry if you are standing still, you’re falling behind; you are constantly expanding your portfolio, your designs, your knowledge, your career and more.

What advice would you give to aspiring web designers?

Keep exploring and try new things every day. Be patient, be productive and passionate, every good thing takes time.
